MoS Ranjan’s silence a matter to ponder

With Manipur violence entering 6 month, congress leader Jairam Ramesh questions the reason behinds Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reluctant to meet Manipur’s Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and also Dr. RK Ranjan , the Union Minister of State of External Affairs who represents Manipur (Inner) in the Lok Sabha to initiate process for reconciliation of the conflict by taking up trust building mechanism among the conflicting group
The Rajya Sabha MP of Congress Party made a valid point in mentioning Union Minister of State for external Affairs Dr. RK Ranjan, as union government authorities had time and again mentioned about the possible hands of foreign element to the ongoing crisis probably from those armed militants operating in Chin state of Myanmar and Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) of Bangladesh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also stated about the involvement of illegal migrants plus others to the Manipur crisis while delivering speech in the Parliament session. Being the representative of the Parliament from inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, and presently holding charge of Union Minister of state for External Affairs, Dr. RK Ranjan should be proactive to find solution for the crisis that is burning Manipur since the outbreak of the violence in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on May 3, 2023. There are no reports or official confirmation of Dr. Ranjan calling on either the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister to discuss the Manipur issue except writing a letter. The Manipur MP, who is also the MoS of the government of India, had also remained dumb during the parliament session when MPs from other state outrages and force to adjourn the sitting over the silence and inaction of the government. Dr. Ranjan is not only the MP from Manipur but Rajya Sabha MP Leshemba Sanajaoba and Mary Kom too remain silence. The attitude showed by the three MPs from Manipur put a big question mark on their integrity and patriotisms. It is fortunate for the people of Manipur that at least some one, who is a also an MP of the Rajya Sabha dare to put up this question, when people in Manipur could not raise such question due to fear of unwanted consequences.
People of Manipur who desperately wanted to end this violence cannot speak out for reasons known to almost all peace people. There are cases where common people are harassed for their mere comments with motives to end the violence. However, many have witness people walking free with appreciations for writing provocative statement at social media post.
It is worth mentioning that even after nearly six months conflict, the government had not make a well discussed plan for ending this violence. The peace committee initiated for restoration of peace in Manipur under the Governor of Manipur today exists just for name shake. Whether it is still existing or not is matter that people do not understand. Because no notification regarding this Governor led peace committee has been issued so far and media has no report of any sitting conducted so far.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also puts 4 more questions which the people from the state of Manipur had never asked. Be it the leader of political party or civil society leader, no one dare to ask the reason for keeping a ‘fail’ Chief Minister who is not able to control the crisis even after nearly six.
“Why is the CM who is so thoroughly discredited across sections of Manipur’s society still being allowed to continue?”, Jairam wrote in “X”, formerly known as twitter.
The congress leader also digs the Prime Minister for not meeting the CM of Manipur and other elected MLAs of the state, where a large majority of whom belong to his own party or are his party’s allies. He also asked – Why has the PM who loves to travel at the drop of a hat not seen it fit to spend even a few hours in Manipur to show his concern?
“The people of Manipur and the entire Northeast are closely watching how the Prime Minister has abandoned the state of Manipur at a time when his intervention and outreach was needed the most. He cannot escape accountability and responsibility by completely ignoring the crisis”, Jairam Ramesh wrote which people of the state eagerly wait for a responsible reply from the government.
