It is a matter of great surprise when the disheartening news about recent spurt of violence at Moreh town in Manipur was heard. Initial report suggest that some people belonging to a group of students body first started creating the trouble by intervening the mass rally organized by a group of people at Moreh town yesterday demanding implementation of Inner Line permit System in the state. There is no reason to believe that any community inhabiting in the state of Manipur will oppose the idea of introducing legislation to check the illegal migrants, which has become a real threat to the people of the state. Since the stir demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state, no community including the Kuki, Naga, Muslim, other smaller tribes of the state has never been opposed. Then why actually the gruesome incident which appeared more like some tribal group opposing the demand for ILP happened yesterday at Moreh. The intensity of the violence that took place yesterday was very high and dangerous that there was a fear of breaking out a more horrible violence. However, it is fortunate that nothing such thing happen due to the understanding and aged old relationship between the various communities of the state. It would be definitely wrong to take the incident that happened yesterday as between a particular community and another particular community.
In reality, it is the disorganize agitation that is creating many such unwanted incident. Forget about Moreh, here in the capital town of Manipur, many of the JCILPS agitation supporters are not following what the JCILPS has appealed the people. Even as there are no blockade called by the JCILPS which is spearheading the agitation, the so called supporters had imposed blockade at many places without giving any warning. Many people including those returning back from works as well as those on emergency service has to suffer a lot due to the excess and misbehavior of the bandh supporters.
There were incident at which the so called JCILPS supporters quarrel with the passer by. Unconfirmed report said that a person unable to tolerate the faulty and indiscipline langauge had chopped a blockade supporter, fortunately he was not that seriously injured.
There is reason to believe that some people are playing game to sabotage the democratic movement of the demand for ILPS being spearheaded by the JCILPS. Or else those who felt that the need to support the movement then they should follow what the JCILPS had planned and announced.
The Moreh incident could have been a handy work of some vested interested personnel who wanted to sabotage the demand for ILPS. And it would be wrong to a specific community as there are many kuki who want to safeguard the identity of the indigenous people of the state.
Moreh violence; a matter to ponder upon
