Nine-year-old Manipuri swimmer Aavya Khomdram has once again brought laurels to Manipur and India by securing the third runner-up position at the Asian Open Schools Invitational Swimming Championships 2026, held in Thailand from August 29 to 30.
The championship was organised at the Assumption University Aquatic Centre, Suvarnabhumi Campus, Thailand, and witnessed participation from more than 160 swimmers representing 16 Asian nations. Aavya delivered an impressive performance, winning two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, and accumulated a total of 143 points.
Her performance placed her among the top performers of the championship and earned her the third runner-up position. Aavya is the daughter of Dr. Amarjit Khomdram and Bonny Khomdram, hailing from Haobam Marak Irom Leikai. She is currently residing in Hyderabad, Telangana, where she studies in Class IV at Sanghamitra School.
She has been undergoing swimming training at Zions Sportz Swimming Academy, Bowrampet, for the past five to six years. Her consistent training and performances at a young age have already earned her recognition in competitive swimming.
