The United Peoples’ Front (UPF), Manipur observed its 28th Foundation Day today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Addressing the gathering, UPF Manipur president Nongthombam Rupachandra said the UPF, Manipur had completed 28 years since its inception on August 28, 1998.
He said that, under the United Peoples’ Front (UPF), Manipur motto, “Dignified Existence”, the UPF, Manipur had consistently visited different hill areas of the State to strengthen bonds and promote understanding between the hill and valley communities.
Rupachandra said the UPF, Manipur supports the stand of “No NRC, No Census” and would extend support to the ongoing agitation of the campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD).
He also criticised the State and Central governments for failing to take adequate steps towards resolving the conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023, and urged them to work towards a peaceful and lasting solution.
Expressing concern over the continued stay of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in relief camps, he urged the government to take concrete measures for their rehabilitation and resettlement in their respective homes.
Rupachandra further said the UPF, Manipur would continue its campaign against the settlement of outsiders in Manipur, asserting that demographic concerns should be addressed in the interest of the future of the State.
The foundation day programme was attended by COCOMI convener and UCM president YK Dhiren, AMWJU president Asem Bhakta, retired Head of the Department of Political Science, Imphal College, K Sethajit, and UPF Manipur advisor Advocate L. Jadumani, and N Rupachandra president UPF Manipur among others, who were present as presidium members.
