Imphal-based evening daily newspaper Paoninlkhon observed its 36th Foundation Day with a function at Usha Hall Complex in Paona Bazaar.
The newspaper, which has been serving as a platform for disseminating news and information to the people of Manipur, marked the occasion with its 36th foundation anniversary programme.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) president Ashem Bhakta attended the function as chief guest, while advocate Chongtham Romen, legal adviser of Paoninlkhon Daily, was the guest of honour. Editor of the newspaper, CH Meghabarna, presided over the programme.
As part of the celebration, cash awards for outstanding performance during the year were presented to Takhelambam Asem Chandrasekhar, Pukhrambam Lamjingba and W. Inaotcha in recognition of their contributions.
Speaking on the occasion, AMWJU president Ashem Bhakta appreciated Paoninlkhon Daily for sustaining its role as an evening newspaper for 36 years despite the rapid growth of digital media. He expressed hope that the newspaper would continue its service to society by providing reliable information.
Advocate Chongtham Romen said journalists have a responsibility to verify facts thoroughly before publishing news, particularly in an era when misinformation can spread rapidly. He stressed that newspapers should ensure accuracy and present verified information to readers.
Editor CH Meghabarna said the newspaper had continued to serve the public despite various challenges and difficulties. He sought continued support from readers and the public so that Paoninlkhon Daily could further contribute to society.
