Ukhrul, June 4:
The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Thursday launched its much-announced democratic march demanding the safe return of six Naga hostages allegedly abducted on May 13, 2026. The march commenced from the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) Office in Ukhrul at around 12 noon, drawing the participation of hundreds of students, youth leaders, civil society representatives, and community members.
The procession is moving along National Highway-202 towards Makhan village, where participants are expected to meet the families of the six missing persons and express solidarity with them in their ongoing ordeal.
The march follows the expiry of ANSAM’s ultimatum to the Government of Manipur and concerned authorities to establish the whereabouts and condition of the six abducted Nagas. The Association has expressed deep dissatisfaction over what it described as the government’s continued failure to provide any credible information regarding the victims.
An Emergency Assembly convened on June 3 at Ukhrul District Headquarters under the aegis of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong reviewed the prevailing situation and voiced serious concern over the prolonged silence surrounding the case.
The Assembly observed that despite the lapse of the deadline, neither the families nor the Naga public have received any concrete update on the hostages, further aggravating public anxiety and the suffering of the affected families.
Reaffirming resolutions adopted during its earlier Emergency Presidential Council meeting, ANSAM demanded that the State Government immediately establish the whereabouts, condition, and safety of the six hostages and facilitate their safe return. The victims were reportedly abducted in broad daylight at Leilon Vaiphei village by cadres of KNF (P), allegedly with the involvement of certain villagers.
The Assembly also resolved to intensify democratic agitation while emphasizing the need for wider consultations among Naga organizations and stakeholders. ANSAM’s Executive Council has been tasked with conducting extensive consultations on future courses of action, including proposals for a broader boycott of the State Government.
Further, an Action Committee comprising former ANSAM leaders will be constituted to guide responses to the prevailing situation in Naga homeland.Warning that any untoward incident during the peaceful march along NH-202 would be the responsibility of the State Government, ANSAM reiterated its commitment to democratic and peaceful means until the six hostages are safely reunited with their families.
The statement was jointly signed by ANSAM President Th. Angteshang Maring and General Secretary Isaac Charenamei.
