Delhi-based CSOs demand accountability after Tronglaobi attack

Several Delhi-based civil society organisations (CSOs), led by the Ningols United Progressive Initiative (NUPI-Delhi), have called for urgent government action following the recent attack in Tronglaobi, Manipur.
The appeal was issued after a candlelight vigil held at Lodhi Garden in memory of the victims of the April 7 incident. Participating organisations included the Meitei Heritage Society, TMP Manipur, Delhi Manipuri Society, Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation, Meitei Merchants Alliance, and DAMMS Assam Tripura Apunba Lup, among others.
In a joint statement, the organisations strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a targeted act of violence against civilians. They stated that the use of explosive weapons in residential areas resulted in the deaths of two children and termed the incident a grave crime.
The CSOs urged both the State and Central Governments to take immediate and decisive measures to address the situation. They called on the Manipur Government to uphold its constitutional responsibility to maintain public order and ensure the safety of civilians. The organisations also demanded the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.
Further, the statement stressed the need to dismantle militant infrastructure in affected areas and sought enhanced support from the Central Government to restore normalcy and security.
Beyond seeking accountability, the organisations appealed for unity among civil society groups, stating that peaceful coexistence among the people of Manipur requires restoration of law and order and protection of civilians.
They also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and conveyed solidarity with those affected by the violence, while urging authorities to take timely action to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
