New political party PPP seeks to challenge existing political forces in Manipur

A regional political party known as the People’s Political Party (PPP) has come into existence in Manipur with the objective of providing an alternative to the political forces prevailing in the State.

The party will be led by Colonel H. Sarat Singh (Retd.), who had contested a Parliamentary election earlier and raised the concerns of the State. The PPP is seeking recognition from the Election Commission of India and aims to establish itself as a strong regional voice representing the aspirations of the people of Manipur.

Disruptions in connectivity due to frequent blockades along the national highways have been identified as one of the important concerns of the party and it has stressed on a permanent political solution to the problem as it affects the supply of essentials and the economy of the State.

Among the other issues are peace, development, employment generation, entrepreneurship, private investments, and infrastructure development.

Speaking on the formation and objectives of the party, Col. H. Sarat Singh (Retd.) said, “The people of Manipur have endured decades of political uncertainty, economic disruption and developmental neglect. The time has come for a new political direction. Our objective is to build a Manipur where highways remain open, democratic rights are protected, young people have opportunities and every citizen can participate in the democratic process with dignity and confidence.”
