On the occasion of Sanaroishingee Numit (Players’ Day) 2026, Chief Minister N. Khemchand Singh extended warm greetings and best wishes to sportspersons across the State, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent in Manipur.
Sanaroishingee Numit is observed annually on February 25 to commemorate Manipur’s historic achievement as the overall champion at the 5th National Games held in Imphal in 1999, where the State clinched the Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy in recognition of its outstanding collective performance.
The day serves both as a tribute to the dedication of sportspersons and as a celebration of Manipur’s rich sporting heritage.
In his message shared on social media, the Chief Minister described athletes as the pride of the State whose discipline and spirit bring life to every sport. He urged continued support for players from all disciplines, calling on citizens and stakeholders to reinforce efforts to nurture, motivate and empower athletes who carry Manipur’s name to national and global arenas.
Several MLAs and other ministers conveyed their felicitations to sportspersons and wished them continued success throughout the year. The messages highlighted not only athletic achievements but also the role of sports in fostering youth engagement and community pride.
Sanaroishingee Numit was first officially observed following Manipur’s success at the 1999 National Games and has since become an important event in the State’s sporting calendar. Governments over the years have used the occasion to honour athletes, launch welfare initiatives and underline ongoing efforts to expand sports infrastructure and opportunities for young talent.
