Liangmei Market to open near Manipur University on Thursday

In a bid to support the indigenous Liangmei community affected by the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur, the Liangmei Imphal Market Committee, in collaboration with Youth Popular Club Kiyamgei, is set to organize a mobile market this Thursday morning in front of Manipur University at Canchipur, Kiyamgei.
The initiative follows the successful launch of the first-ever Liangmei market in Imphal on September 16 at Tera, inaugurated by former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as Chief Guest. The market showcased traditional goods and produce from the Liangmei community, drawing attention to their rich cultural heritage and economic resilience.
Speaking to media, Sanajoaba Nongthombam, convenor of the Liangmei Imphal Market Committee, appealed to the public to support the initiative. He emphasized that the mobile market is not only a platform for economic empowerment but also a gesture of solidarity with a community deeply impacted by the prolonged conflict between the Kuki and Meitei groups.
