Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Member of Parliament from the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, handed over seven ambulance vehicles to the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch. The ambulances were provided from his MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund.
The vehicles have been distributed to the district branches of the Red Cross Society located in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts. The handover programme was held at the office of the Manipur State Branch, MG Avenue, Imphal.
The ambulances are expected to play a crucial role during emergencies, particularly in highway accidents and during natural disasters. Dr. Bimol Akoijam said the initiative was aimed at supporting the Red Cross Society’s efforts in delivering timely medical assistance and strengthening its humanitarian services in the state.
Present at the event were Dr. RK Nimai Singh (Retd. IAS), Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, Y. Sher Singh, AC to Deputy Commissioner Imphal East, and Pooja Elangbam, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, who attended as Chief Guest, President, and Guests of Honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, MP Bimol Akoijam expressed appreciation for the dedication of Red Cross volunteers, acknowledging their tireless service for the welfare of the people. He also expressed hope that the ambulances would enhance the society’s response capability and mark the beginning of a stronger support system for humanitarian activities across Manipur.
