The Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup (SANLUP) has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, urging him to take immediate steps towards the formation of a strong and stable government in the state, as well as the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur.
In the memorandum signed by SANLUP Secretary Binashakhi Devi, the organisation expressed deep concern over the ongoing political instability in the state. The group highlighted that the lack of an effective government had eroded public trust and severely disrupted the administrative machinery, thereby delaying essential interventions and development works. SANLUP representatives appealed to the Governor to initiate prompt and decisive measures to restore a functional government capable of addressing the urgent needs of the people and ensuring law and order.
The memorandum also stressed the need for the implementation of the NRC in Manipur, citing the state’s vulnerable international borders and the increasing concern over unchecked illegal immigration. The organisation stated that the influx of undocumented individuals posed serious threats to the demographic balance, socio-economic stability, and security of the indigenous population. It called for a properly executed NRC process to identify and take necessary legal action, including deportation, against those residing in the state without proper authorization.
SANLUP underscored that the NRC would help safeguard the cultural, political, and identity-based rights of the indigenous communities and contribute to national sovereignty.
