A large-scale human chain protest was held this morning along the stretch from Kwakeithel to the Airport, led by the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) in coordination with AMAWOVA, Poirei Leimarol, the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), and the Centre for Organisation Research and Education (COHR).
The demonstration began around 11:30 AM and saw significant participation from local clubs and Meira Paibi groups. The organisers expressed strong concern over what they described as increasing military interference in civilian affairs, referring in particular to an incident at Gwaltabi where troops of the 4th Mahar Regiment allegedly stopped a Manipur State Transport bus carrying journalists without justification.
Protesters held the event as a peaceful show of resistance, denouncing what they saw as oppressive measures, including the continued imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. They accused the central authorities of using divisive policies and called for an end to the militarisation of the state.
The event concluded without any disturbance, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere throughout.
