Six individuals have been arrested by the Manipur Police in connection with the death of Md. Nawash Khan (33), a resident of Kairang Mayai Leikai, who was abducted and later declared dead upon arrival at Thoubal District Hospital.
According to police sources, Md. Sanwash was abducted from his residence on the evening of January 14 by unidentified individuals and reportedly detained in the Andro area. Initial findings suggest he may have died from severe physical assault while in captivity.
A team from Imphal East Police, led by the Additional SP and OC of Heingang Police Station, rushed to the hospital after receiving information about the incident. They detained three individuals who had brought the deceased to the hospital and were held by people at the scene. Subsequently, three more suspects were apprehended during the investigation.
Manipur Police released a statement confirming the arrests and identified the six suspects as Sagolsem Chingkheinganba Singh (25), Chingakham Sanatomba Singh (19), Sapam Somorjit Singh (32), Maibam Bokenjit Singh (24), Athokpam Jiban Singh (30), and Chingakham Mani Singh (41).
The Arambai Tenggol (AT) Unit-II denied involvement in the incident, stating that some individuals claiming to be members of their Andro branch were responsible. The AT also clarified that they had handed over six suspects to the police for investigation and assured cooperation in identifying the culprits.
The case is under active investigation as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction and death of the victim.
Arambai Tenggol, General Head Quarter also clarified the six individuals arrested in connection with the abduction and death of 33-year-old Md. Nawash from Keirang Mayai Leikai include ex-members and some unrelated individuals. At a briefing at AT’s General Headquarters, organisation’s Commissioner Munindro Mangang assured cooperation with the police investigation. Additionally, AT Unit 2 in Andro has been suspended until further notice.
