Imphal, Dec 4:

Various Meira Paibi organizations from the Singjamei area held a torch rally at Singjamei Bazaar to protest the detention of Arambai Tenggol Chief Korounganba Khuman by the NIA and the arrest of village defenders by various security agencies on Tuesday evening. The protest, organized by Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup at Singjamei Parking, accused the Indian government of indirectly supporting the Kuki-Zo narco-terrorist war against the Meitei people.
“We strongly condemn the attitude of the Indian government in handling the 18-month-old crisis initiated by the Kuki Narco-Terrorists,” said Sumati Sougrakpam, Publicity Secretary of Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup. She added that everyone, including the government, is aware of how the village defenders came into existence. They emerged because security forces, particularly the Central Forces, failed to act and control the situation in time.
Sumati alleged that the central security forces are insincere in their duties. Instead of protecting the people, they turned their guns on the Meitei community while directly and indirectly supporting the Kuki Narco-Terrorists. This, she claimed, shows that the current crisis is a long-planned war against the Manipuri people.
She further criticized the actions of both the central and state governments, accusing them of failing to address the crisis effectively. The protest also highlighted that the involvement of agencies like the NIA in arresting Korounganba Khuman reflects a bias against the defenders of Manipur.
Sumati pointed out that the central government has remained silent about atrocities committed by the Kuki Narco-Terrorists, including the displacement of thousands, violence against women and children, and the burning of Meitei villages. She questioned why strict actions are not being taken against these groups under the law while agencies like the NIA are targeting individuals like Korounganba.
Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup demanded that justice be served to the people of Manipur and emphasized that the central government is undermining the state’s autonomy. They asserted that if this neglect continues, the Meitei people will rise against the oppression, citing the recent brutal murder of Kamalbabu in Leimakhong Army Camp as an example of the increasing injustice faced by the Manipuri people.
