The problems being face by the people of the state due to irregularities of the cell phone service providers in the state of Manipur has been raised as a calling attention motion in the ongoing state assembly session by MLA Kh. Joykishan. He said various jobs opportunity of the youths in the state are at stake as communication facilities like internet are existing for name shake only. Referring to a news item appeared in Manipuri daily Hueiyen Lanpao, Joykishan said that almost all the service providers of cell phone are not properly serving the people and this need to be checked.
Replying the calling attention motion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that the cell phone service providers are being controlled by and Independent body called the Telephone Regularity Authority of India which is not under the government of Manipur. However, the Chief Minister said that government is trying all its effort to facilitate the youths of the state with the modern IT technology. He said state government has now established IT park at Mantripukhri. The Chief Minister however agreed that there is some irregularity to the functioning of the Cell Phone Service Providers. He said due to inability to provide 24×7 power supply to all the places of the state there has been some hurdles to the functioning of the cell phone service providers. He further added that government is trying to improve the electricity problems of the state for that a 400 KV line has been installed from Silchar to Imphal. He further added that with the improvement of the electricity the cell phone service providers will also improved.
