Heavy vehicles banned on Imphal-Yairipok road, threats to shutdown for 48 hours

Imphal, August 8: Plying of heavy vehicles along the Imphal-Yairipok road has been banned from today.
The step was taken by the disappointed people of the road since the concerned department fails to restore the road for a very long time.
Volunteers of Imphal-Yairipok Road United Club Organisation (IYRUCO), a cluster of 18 clubs and Meira Paibis stop plying of heavy vehicles near Kongba Kshetri Leikai since today morning and even met to return back.
Speaking to the media persons, L Ashok, Joint Secretary of IYRUCO said that the organisation has already announced the concern and state government to restore the Imphal-Yairipok road on or before August 7, 2017. Since no positive response was given by the authorities, the organisation took up the steps to stop plying of heavy vehicles along the Imphal-Yairipok road beginning from today till August 10, 2017, he added.
Ashok also said that if the concern and state government fails to respond and restore Imphal-Yairipok road within the given time, August 8 to 10, 2017, total shutdown from the midnight of August 10 to August 12 on Imphal-Yairipok road will be imposed.
Mention may be that Imphal-Yairipok road from Konung Mamang to Irilbung has been witnessing pathetic condition by many, yet no concern has lay their eyes on it. Even MAHUD Minister and others ministers are also using the road as daily commuter.
On the other hand, Heirangoithong Women Social Cultural Development Association, in a press statement said that they will block the Heirangoithong Makha Khagemba Road from August 16, 2017 if the road is road is not restored on or before August 15, 2017.
