Shortage of doctor suspended emergency service at Sagolmang PHC; local protest

Imphal, June 8: Authority of Sagolmang CHC & Hospital has decided to close down the emergency service in the hospital due to shortage of doctors. A notification in the regard was pasted at the gate of the hospital stating that due to shortage of doctor , there will be no more emergency service at CHC Sagolmang Hospital with effect from June 10, 2017. The notice also stated to contact MO in charge of the hospital for further contact.
Following the notice, people of Sagolmang area today staged a sit in protest in front of the hospital urging government authority to fill up the require doctors to the hospital.
According to source with the Imphal Times a total 1092 post of doctors are still lying vacant in the state health department at present.
It further said that there are only 590 doctors working in the state health department and due to lack of the manpower various problems arises at district PHCs and Hospitals.
