19 persons died in 3 seperate accidents; over 30 injured

Imphal, March 27: At what could be term as a tragic day for the state of Manipur, at least 19 people including women and teenage youths were killed in tragic road accident occurred at 3 different places.
The first accident occurred in Senapati district in between Makan and Chakhumai area along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway at around 3 am today.
The incident took place when the Imphal-bound tourist bus bearing registration no.MN01 4 A 9503 fell into a gorge located between Maram and Makhan villages along the Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway 2, about 90 km north of Imphal around 3am, reports said.
According to police source number of casualty reaches 10 while 25 were injured.
Eight people lost their lives on the spot while one succumbed to injuries on their way to the hospital.
Some of the injured were admitted to the Senapati District Hospital, which is the nearest health care centre, while 7 others were brought to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.
According to sources in the hospital, the death toll is likely to go up as the condition of some the injured is serious.
Police sources said that the cause of the accident is being ascertained. They added that a case has been registered at Mao Police station and an investigation is on.
“All possible help will be extended from my side and the government,” chief minister N Biren Singh said in a post on Facebook.
The Chief Minister also write – “”I grieve for the deaths and injurers at Makhan bus accident. All possible help will be extended from my side and the Government”
In another facebook post and immediately sent a Ministerial team to take stock of the site.
Chief Minister N. Biren is presently in New Delhi to make a courtesy call on President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Union ministers after becoming the first Bharatiya Janata Party CM.
The second accident took place at around 12.20 am along Imphal Jiribam road between Khongsang and Irang. The ill fated winger passenger vehicle was coming towards Imphal from Jiribam side. At least 7 passengers are reported killed. at the spot.
The third accident at Lairou area along Imphal Dimapur road after a truck hit at the hillock. The driver of the truck died on the spot and the handyman sustain injury.
