Students’ fast-unto-death protest continues at Singjamei Thongkhong

Imphal, July 24: After the evacuation of four students who were undertaking the fast unto death agitation at Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai another four students from different schools volunteer to undertake the second phase of fast unto-death-protest since July 22 evening. The students reiterated their demand and said that there will be not turning back if  ILPS is not implemented in the State besides withdrawal of the wanted tag on former JCILPS convener Khomdram Ratan.
Earlier from the night of July 19, four students namely Ningthoukhongjam Anand of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba of CC Higher Secondary School, Tomthinnganbi Toijam and Pangambam Maria TG Higher Secondary School began the fast-unto-death protest Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai Thongkhong where Tomthinnganbi Toijam and Pangambam Maria were hospitalized after their health conditions deteriorated on July 21.
Later on July 22 Ningthoukhongjam Anand and Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba of Johnstone Higher Secondary School were also hospitalized after their health conditions deteriorated.
Irom Jotinkumar of Liberal College, Rk Sitam Singh of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Thokchom Leonardo of CC Higher Secondary School and Ningthoujam Linthoi of Lamlong Higher Secondary School are the volunteer students have are undertaking the fat-unto-death protest from July 22 at Singjamei Wangma Taba Kshetri Leikai Thongkhong.
One of the student protestor said that until the ILPS is implemented in the State and wanted tag on Kh Ratan is withdrawn immediately, the fast-unto-death will be continued even if they have to sacrifice their life. Using of tear gas, mock bomb by state police personal to the student while undergoing peaceful protest is strongly unacceptable, state government must consider it as police personals are kept for protection of the people, the student protestor further asserted.
To avoid undue disturbances at the protest site, local people, meira paibis, club organizations members and students have prevented heavy vehicles auto Rickshaws and other vehicles from passing through Singjamei Bridge area.
A doctor from Akampat Primary Health Centre is attending to the health conditions of the student protesters.
