Imphal, July 24: Ahu Sakhrie, one among the Founding member of Naga People Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) passes away at Kohima on July 23 after a brief illness.
His untimely demise is condoled by NSCN-IM. In a press statement the MIP of the NSCN/GPRN said that Ahu Sakhrie, a native of Khonoma Village was one of the visionary leaders amongst Nagas. True to his enthusiasm, he was truthful and committed social worker. A down to earth person and well respected by the people, he had actively involved in numerous ways in uplifting the society. He was one among those dedicated who contributed with sincerity and courage in all his duty for social activities. Late Ahu Sakhrie was not only the founding member of NPMHR but also the convener (Delhi Sector) for many years. When the Nagas were in the most difficult time and at the darkest period of Human Rights violation marked by tortures and killings, he was the first person to file the petition in Supreme Court of India against the imposition of Arm Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) and demanded for withdrawal of Draconian Laws. He worked selflessly for the Nagas in particular and the northeast people in general against the Human right violation.
