As a part of the world fortnight observance on crime against women, Women Action for Development (WAD) organised a campaign in the state since yesterday with the theme of ‘way to speedy justice. ‘WAD has taken up sixteen such cases of crimes committed against women in the state where no justice has been delivered to the victim’s family. Secretary of WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam along with media persons today visited the family member of Chanbi and Menaka (mother and daughter) who were allegedly killed after being raped in the year of 2010.
Angom Chanbi (38), w/o. (Late) A. Khommei and their 16 years old daughter, Menaka were found missing during the intervening night of 12th and 13th Jan, 2010. On the 23rd Jan, 2010, Chanbi and Menaka were found murdered at an open paddy field at Sampha Loukon of Phayeng Ching Khunou under Lamsang police station of Imphal west district. The dead bodies were discovered by a cowboy only a kilometer away from their house at a difference of around 20 feet to each other. According to the post mortem report, enough evidence of gang rape were found. But no justice has been delivered till today.
Speaking to media, father in law of Chanbi, Angom Amuthoi (80) said no compensation has been given by the government or any concerned authority and no accused has been arrested so far. He blamed the police authority for their delay in action to find justice.
Amuthoi is half paralyzed, and his wife look after their three grand children without any help from the government. Amuthoi doesn’t even receive the old age pension and any other distribution of PDS. His wife, Manitombi (60) is serving the family by selling vegetables.
According to Lamsang police one of the accused related to the alleged murder of the mother and daughter have bailed out and an arrest warrant is in the process to be issued against another accused.
