Imphal, Jan 24:

A friendly Soccer match of young adolescent girls was organized by Wide Angle at Yurembam playground today between Heinoupok Girls 11 and Yurembam Girls 11 with the support from Youth Development Club – Yurembam and Youth Cultural Welfare Organization- Heinoupokwith the theme “Soccer for Social Change’.
The Soccer coaching started in 3 villages namely Heinoupok, Yurembam and Changangei with a total of 60 young girls ranging from 12 years to 16 years since October 2020. The children were coached by Banti Sanglakpam and R.K. Janaki (both are National Players), the overall initiative was initiated by CRY (Child Rights & You).
The rationales behind conducting of such Coaching for young girls amid the COVID-19 pandemic is to engage them through soccer to motivate and impart positive coping skills to the children, whose mental and emotional wellbeing have been largely distressed by the COVID related traumatic environment, that literally pushed them into a disrupted lifestyle risking various devastating drawbacks. It will also protect them from inclining into other unhealthy outlets such as smartphone addiction, substance abuse, becoming the victims of cybercrime, child trafficking, issue of early marriage, drop out from school or falling into other harmful ways.
Flagging off the match Montu Ahanthem stated that he believe, engaging the children into the game of Soccer will definitely enhance and empowers adolescent girls to move towards an active and healthy living. He also stated that he will try his best to call Bala Devi the renown International player to meet the young girls as she was a CRY campaigner last year. The friendly Soccer match ended with Heinoupok Girls 11 winning 2 – 0.
