Manipur shines at National U19 Chess Championship

Seven chess players from Manipur, including four boys and three girls, put up commendable performances at the National Under-19 Chess Championship 2025, which concluded today at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Despite the State’s return to the national under-19 championship after a gap of several years, the Manipur contingent recorded encouraging results in the highly competitive tournament, which was conducted over eleven rounds.
In the boys’ section, Williamba Moirangthem and Jonex Nandeibam secured four and a half points each, while Lemba Sougaijam and Leimapokpam Pari Singh finished with four points apiece.
In the girls’ section, Nadia Sougaijam and Konalika Yumnam emerged as the leading performers from Manipur, earning four and a half points each. Rajasmita Hanjabam concluded the championship with three and a half points.
The overall performance was considered a positive outcome for Manipur chess, reflecting steady progress despite the long absence from national-level under-19 competitions.
