World Cancer Day observed at Babina Specialty Hospital

World Cancer Day was observed on Tuesday at the auditorium of Babina Specialty Hospital, Khabeisoi, Sajiwa Jail Road, Imphal East, with the aim of raising public awareness on cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment options.
The programme featured interactions with cancer survivor patients who shared their personal journeys of recovery, highlighting courage, resilience, and hope. Awareness talks were also delivered by oncologists and medical experts, focusing on the importance of timely diagnosis and accessible treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director of Babina Specialty Hospital Dr. Dhaballi said the Babina Group initially began as a diagnostic centre. During diagnostic services, a significant number of cancer cases were detected, and patients faced numerous challenges in seeking treatment outside the state. Considering these difficulties, the Babina management decided to establish a dedicated cancer hospital in collaboration with the American Oncology Institute in 2016.
Dr. Dhaballi stated that the observance of World Cancer Day is intended to inform the public that cancer is a curable disease if detected and treated at an early stage. He also stressed the need for greater awareness to reduce fear and misconceptions associated with cancer.
The programme concluded with media interaction and information on hospital initiatives aimed at strengthening public outreach and awareness as part of World Cancer Day observance.
