World Autism Awareness Day 2026 observed at RIMS

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Autism Awareness Day 2026 today under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value” at Kamal Hall, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal, in collaboration with the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC), Imphal West.
The programme was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal. Other distinguished dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal; Prof. R. K. Lenin Singh, Department of Psychiatry; and Dr. Ch. Shyamsunder Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, RIMS, Imphal.
During the programme, the Director and the Medical Superintendent interacted with children and their parents. As part of the observance, toys, snacks, and stationery items were distributed to the children. To date, a total of 35 new cases have been identified and are under regular follow-up, comprising 30 boys and 5 girls.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Director, RIMS; the Chief Accounts Officer; Heads of Departments and faculty members from the Departments of Paediatrics, ENT, Psychiatry, and Clinical Psychology; members of the DEIC team; and office bearers from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office, Imphal West.
