Imphal, Aug 5:
Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup have highlighted the urgent need for government support to local organizations who are assisting the Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs).
A press meet was held today at the Manipur Press Club, jointly organized by Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup, to address the ongoing challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur.
During the meet, Samom Dhurva, General Secretary of Uripok Apunba Lup, highlighted the ongoing plight of IDPs who have been residing in relief camps for nearly 15 months. Dhurva emphasized that both Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup have been actively supporting the IDPs since the crisis began on May 3 last year. Their efforts include providing assistance in relief camps and deploying volunteers in conflict areas, a commitment they intend to continue in the future.
S. Dhurva stressed the necessity for the Government of India to address the core issues underlying the crisis in Manipur to find a lasting solution. He argued that without tackling these fundamental issues, the crisis cannot be resolved. He also called for cooperation among all political parties to work towards a comprehensive solution.
Additionally, he pointed out the inconvenience caused to students by the current relief camps, which are located in schools and colleges. He urged the state government to arrange more suitable accommodations for the IDPs to alleviate this issue.
