Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) have strongly condemned the brutal killing of Chesam Abdulkadir, a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai, and demanded appropriate punishment for those involved in the heinous act.
Chesam Abdulkadir had gone missing on June 10, 2025, and his body was discovered on June 17 near the Nambul River at Samurou in a highly decomposed state. The two organisations expressed deep anguish over the incident and stated that the crime, suspected to have taken place inside a private residence, was extremely disturbing.
The groups pointed out that the murder appeared to be premeditated, allegedly involving two individuals linked to a certain local organisation. They condemned the misuse of the identity of civil society organisations for personal or criminal motives, stating that such actions bring disrepute to the broader civil society movement in Manipur.
UAL and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup appealed to all like-minded organisations and the general public of Manipur to unite and ensure justice for the victim. They also urged for caution and accountability within organisations to prevent their platform from being misused.
In their joint statement, they called for collective efforts to safeguard the harmony between Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities, particularly during such a sensitive time.
