The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing medical education and public health by successfully organizing two Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs today. The academic events focused on hemophilia and zoonotic diseases—highlighting the institution’s interdisciplinary and patient-centred approach.
The CME on “Hemophilia Update – 2025” was jointly organized by the Departments of Transfusion Medicine and Medicine in collaboration with the Hemophilia Society, Imphal Chapter. Experts addressed early diagnosis, genetic counselling, and treatment challenges in low-resource settings, while emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary care. Prof. (Retd.) A. Meina Singh served as the Organizing Chairperson.
In parallel, the Department of Microbiology, as Regional Coordinator for the “National One Health Program for the Prevention and Control of Zoonoses,” held a CME titled “Zoonoses in Manipur: An Update” at Banting Hall to mark World Zoonoses Day 2025. The sessions focused on integrated surveillance, region-specific strategies, and the importance of the One Health approach linking human, animal, and environmental health.
The programs were attended by key dignitaries including Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, who served as Chief Guest. He noted the urgent need for increased hemophilia awareness, revealing that only 64 cases are currently registered in Manipur. Despite its exclusion from the national rare disease program, RIMS continues to offer free treatment to all hemophilia patients.
Also present were Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent; Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean of Academics; Shri Laishram Biramangol Singh, Director of Manipur Zoological Garden; and Prof. H. Rebachandra Singh, Head of Microbiology.
