The Psychiatric Department of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organized International Testing Week 2024 at the Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) Centre of RIMS, Imphal in collaboration with the Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE), the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) and the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) with support from Coalition Plus.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. Gojendra Singh, Associate Professor and Head of the Psychiatric Department, stated that “International Testing Week is a reminder of our responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing healthcare services. Early testing saves lives, prevents complications, and contributes to a healthier community.”
Further, R.K. Nalinikanta, President of CoNE, mentioned that International Testing Week was observed throughout the week with the aim of increasing access to testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV among marginalized communities. The program was also conducted at various locations during the week. He appreciated NVHCP and MSACS for contributing essential testing kits, diagnostic tools, treatment resources, and vaccinations for individuals diagnosed with hepatitis and HIV.
During the program, free vaccinations were provided to individuals with hepatitis and HIV. Approximately 40 clients were targeted for HIV and hepatitis screening. Additionally, opportunities for treatment and support were extended to individuals diagnosed with hepatitis C and HIV.
