RIMS marks World Kidney Day 2026

In observance of World Kidney Day 2026, a Health Camp cum Organ Donation Awareness Campaign was successfully organized today at Wainem Rongmei Naga Village and Bungte Chiru, Nambol, Bishnupur district under the theme “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.” The programme was organized by the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, with the objective of promoting awareness on kidney health and providing essential healthcare services to rural communities.
During the camp, specialist doctors from multiple departments including Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Dermatology and ENT provided free OPD consultations and medical check-ups. Around 150 patients from the surrounding villages availed themselves of the healthcare services, receiving medical advice, treatment, and necessary medications.
As part of the programme, an awareness session on organ and tissue donation was conducted by healthcare professionals. Informational pamphlets on organ donation and transplantation were distributed to educate the public about the importance of organ donation, early detection of kidney diseases, and the benefits of adopting healthy lifestyles.
Free medicines were also distributed to the patients during the health camp. The event was supported by organizers and volunteers from the villages, and Prof. Ranjan Gondamei of IIT Roorkee was among the hosts coordinating the overall health camp programme.
