Imphal, Oct 17:
Authorities of Churachandpur district have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita in the district headquarters, effective for three days starting Wednesday evening. The move aims to prevent potential violence in the area, according to an official order.
The decision came after the office of the superintendent of police expressed serious concerns about a possible breach of law and order, which could jeopardize public peace and tranquility across the town.
The prohibitory orders, which took effect at 6 PM on Wednesday, will remain in place until 5 AM on October 18, 2024, or until further notice. During this period, unauthorized processions, unlawful assemblies of five or more persons, and the carrying of arms or objects that could be used as weapons—including sticks, rods, and stones—are strictly prohibited, as per the official order.
A district official explained that the imposition of the orders was necessary to preempt potential clashes among different volunteer groups or factions within Churachandpur town, amid rising tensions. The restrictions are intended to ensure public safety and maintain peace during this sensitive period.
