More arms and ammunitions surrenders as deadline ends today

Imphal, Feb 27:

In response to the appeal made by the Governor of Manipur for the surrender of looted and illegally held weapons, a significant number of arms, ammunition, and other related items were handed over to the District Police, Bishnupur, today. The surrender took place in the presence of the Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, and other senior officers.
The surrendered items were received at different police stations under the district. At the Commando Unit, Bishnupur, the recovered items included two Self-Loading Rifles (SLR) with magazines, live ammunition, a Double Barrel Breech Loading (DBBL) gun, 12-bore cartridges, high-explosive hand grenades, and a bulletproof jacket.
Moirang Police Station recorded the surrender of one .303 rifle, an SBBL and a DBBL gun, two country-made 9mm pistols, Baofeng walkie-talkie sets, bulletproof jackets, head gear, barrel ammunition, and a Motorola walkie-talkie set.
At Kumbi Police Station, the surrendered arms and equipment included DBBL and SBBL guns, various calibers of live ammunition including those for AK, SLR, and .303 rifles, bulletproof jackets and plates, helmets, an INSAS magazine, low-explosive demo charges, and multiple walkie-talkie handsets with chargers.
Bishnupur Police Station also received a substantial number of weapons, including DBBL and SBBL guns, bolt-action guns, a 9mm pistol, live ammunition, hand grenades, tear smoke, stun shells, Baofeng sets with chargers, bulletproof vests and plates, helmets, and other tactical gear.
At PGCI Police Station, a local SBBL gun, combat helmets, bulletproof jackets and plates, jungle hunting boots, camouflage clothing, tube launchers, ammunition chargers, empty cases, and live rounds of different calibers were among the items handed over.
The surrender of such a large cache of weapons and ammunition marks a significant step in restoring peace and normalcy in the region. The authorities have urged others in possession of illegal arms to come forward and hand them over as part of efforts to ensure security and stability in Manipur.
Meanwhile, another significant cache of arms, ammunition, hand grenades, and other items was handed over to the Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi, between February 23 and February 27, 2025. The surrendered items were displayed at the office of the Officer-in-Charge, Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi, in the presence of Subedar L. Bebekananda Singh and other officers. The identities of the individuals who surrendered the weapons and equipment have not been disclosed.
The surrendered items included one modified .303 rifle with a magazine, one country-made sniper rifle, a .22 revolver pistol, an INSAS magazine, bulletproof fiber and iron plates, various types of headgear, and multiple rounds of live ammunition, including .22, .38, .45, AK, sniper, and M16 rounds. Additionally, explosive devices such as a Chinese hand grenade with a detonator, an Indian hand grenade with a detonator, stun grenades, tear smoke shells, and smoke bombs were among the items handed over.
Communication equipment, including two Baofeng wireless handsets, along with camouflage uniforms consisting of pants, shirts, T-shirts, and caps, were also surrendered.
The seized arms, ammunition, and explosives have been handed over to the concerned police station in Heingang for further investigation.
