Former Chief Advisor of Loyalam Apunba Loumi Lup (LALLUP), Puyam Joy, has called for a renewed commitment to moral values and ethical conduct, stating that lasting peace, good governance and national progress can only be achieved through integrity, justice and compassion.
In a statement issued today, Puyam Joy said that while science and technology continue to transform society, moral character remains the foundation of trust, respect and sustainable development. He noted that moral values help individuals distinguish right from wrong, while ethics guide responsible behaviour in personal, social and professional life.
He observed that history has shown that civilisations prosper when they uphold virtues such as honesty, discipline, justice, humility and compassion, but decline when corruption, greed and injustice prevail. Referring to the teachings of Lord Buddha, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he said their principles of truth, non-violence, integrity, service and justice remain relevant in addressing present-day challenges.
Puyam Joy also stressed that ethical leadership is essential for every organisation, while families and educational institutions play a vital role in nurturing responsible citizens. He said problems such as corruption, violence, discrimination and misuse of power cannot be eliminated by laws alone, but require individuals to act with honesty, fairness and social responsibility.
He urged people to measure success not by wealth or position but by moral courage, compassion and commitment to justice. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he appealed to citizens to make moral values and ethics the guiding principles of their lives, saying only then can society ensure lasting peace, dignity and hope for future generations.
