The Meitei Alliance has congratulated Yumnam Khemchand Singh on his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Manipur, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, and the Council of Ministers on the formation of the new elected government.
In a statement, the Alliance said the new government has assumed office at a crucial time, with the state having endured prolonged ethnic violence leading to humanitarian and institutional challenges. It maintained that the crisis stems from years of misgovernance and systemic failures.
The Alliance urged the Chief Minister to prioritise the safe and time-bound return of internally displaced persons from relief camps with adequate security and rehabilitation. It also called for measures including abrogation of the Suspension of Operations agreements, identification of illegal immigrants through lawful mechanisms, action against poppy cultivation and drug networks, and eviction of illegal encroachers from protected forest areas.
Stating that lasting peace depends on impartial governance and the rule of law, the Meitei Alliance appealed to the people of Manipur to support the new government in restoring peace and harmony in the state.
