Film critic and academician Meghachandra Kongbam was honoured with the R.K. Bidur Film Critic Award 2026 during the 68th Foundation Day celebration of Cultural Forum, Manipur held today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Auditorium, Imphal.
The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to creative writing on Manipuri cinema. Annual awards in 35 categories covering literature, music, drama, cinema and culture were also presented to distinguished personalities at the event.
The R.K. Bidur Film Critic Award, introduced this year, is named after late R.K. Bidur, pioneer of the film society movement in Manipur, noted film critic and founder president of the Manipur Film Journalists Association. Meghachandra Kongbam is the first recipient of the award.
A noted film critic, academician and film activist, Meghachandra Kongbam received the Swarna Kamal Award for Best Film Critic at the 63rd National Film Awards in 2015. He currently serves as president of the Film Society of Manipur and has contributed extensively to film criticism and cinema studies for over four decades.
