Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol conducted a free breast

A breast and cervical cancer awareness and screening camp was organized by the Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol at City Hospital, Khongjom, on Saturday. The initiative, which is part of the Club’s long-running community health project, provided women from the nearby areas with free-of-cost detection tests and medicines.
Expert consultations were provided by Dr. Ajit Lukhram, Consultant Surgeon at Shija Breast and Thyroid Clinic, and Dr. Dipendra Chongtham, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The doctors took part in interacting with the participants, emphasizing the importance of early detection and preventive measures to fight against breast and cervical cancer.
Dr. T. Bilashini, Gynaecologist, City Hospital, who delivered the keynote address, said that regular screening, timely diagnosis, and continued community engagement hold the key to improving women’s health.
Organizers said the free service was part of a continued effort that Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol has been implementing over the last more than 15 years to reach out to the underprivileged and rural areas. Consultations, screenings, and distribution of medicines were carried out throughout the event by a committed medical team.
The camp saw a steady turnout of women availing the services, reflecting growing public awareness of preventive healthcare practices in the region.
Organizers reiterated the pledge to sustain the effort through periodic health camps, aiming at reducing barriers to early intervention and thereby enhancing access to essential healthcare for women across Manipur.
