Imphal, Aug 3:
The Loktak Development Authority (LDA), under the directives of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, distributed food grains and essential items to the fishermen of Champu Khangpok Floating Village in Loktak Lake. This effort was meant to ease the hardships of the community, which had been isolated by thick phumdis (floating vegetation) for two weeks due to strong winds, cutting off their access to food, clean water, and medical necessities, and preventing them from fishing.
LDA Chairman Asnikumar Moirangthem, along with other officials, handed over the supplies, emphasizing support and solidarity. The LDA highlighted the cultural and heritage significance of Champu Khangpok and its commitment to developing it as an iconic heritage floating village. They recognized the vital role the fishing community plays in conserving Loktak Lake’s ecosystem. The LDA expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for his timely intervention, aiming to alleviate the community’s immediate burdens and reinforce their partnership in preserving the lake’s rich biodiversity.
