A large number of devotees participated in the “Langban Chara Tambagi” religious programme organised at Lainingthou Sanamahi Shanglen, Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham, as part of a major religious observance of the Meitei community.
Devotees from different parts of the state gathered at the sacred site and performed traditional rituals, including Langban Chara Tamba, hei-lei cutting and offerings at the shrines of Lainingthou Sanamahi and Ima Leimarel Sidabi.
More than 5,000 devotees who gathered at the site were later served chara under the supervision of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board.
Speaking in connection with the programme, MLA, Keirao Assembly Constituency L. Rameshwor Meetei, who is also the Vice-President of the Temple Board, said the increasing number of visitors to the sacred site indicated growing participation in Sanamahi religious practices.
He said the Temple Board was taking steps to address difficulties faced by devotees, particularly the shortage of parking space. He said efforts were being made to identify and arrange suitable land for parking facilities at the site.
Rameshwor also appealed to the people to continue supporting efforts to promote and preserve Sanamahi religious traditions.
