Imphal, May 14:

Security forces apprehended Asem Netaji Singh, also known as Neta, aged 40, along with a computer and a mobile phone on May 13. Later, Asem Netaji was identified by authorities as a purported member of the Kanglei Yaowl Kanna Lup (KYKL), a militant group active in the region. However, a statement, signed by M Loya Khuman, Deputy Secretary of Publicity and Research for KYKL, categorically denied Asem Netaji’s affiliation with the group.
Additionally, according to KYKL’s statement, “security forces have been arbitrarily detaining individuals, accusing them of various crimes such as extortion from government employees and businesses. KYKL alleges that these arrests individuals are often falsely linked to the groups who are advocating for the interests of Manipur.”
