Group B will be led by Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Sunrise Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

There Are New Rules

The IPL 2022 will see significant changes in-game rules concerning Covid-19 teams’ allowances, DRS, the newly-introduced MCC laws, and Super Over. While Covid-19 is less of a threat than even a few months ago, it’ll still affect the game’s rules. For instance, the game cannot field a playing XI to avoid a virus situation in any team during the IPL. The change in rule says the board will attempt to reschedule the match for later, or the franchise will forfeit the match.

Another change in rules is concerning the DRS or number of referrals, which has been increased from one to two. Finally, the Marylebone Cricket Club recently suggested that the new batsman will take the strike even in the middle crossover. This change comes into effect for international cricket later this year in October, but the IPL decided to enforce it right away.

The rule states that the incoming batsman will take the strike upon a catch dismissal. This happens irrespective of whether the batsmen they’ve crossed over, except it is the last ball of the over. The final change in the rule is concerning the Super Over. It states that if, for some reason, the Super Over cannot be staged after regular playtime, the team with the highest points is declared the winner. The rule also covers if the Super Overs cannot be staged to break the tie.

The Game Features New Captains and Skippers

Some teams in the game will have new captains, including the RCB, CSK, KKR, LSG, GT, and PBKS. The RCB has a newly-appointed South African, Faf du Plessis as its new skipper, succeeding Virat Kohli. The CSK appoints Ravindra Jadeja, a star all-rounder who’s been an integral part of the team since 2012. The KKR appoints Shreays Iyer as its skipper this year, replacing Eoin Morgan.

The LSG is a new franchise that’ll make its debut in this season’s IPL with its new Indian opener K. L. Rahul. The GT is another new franchise; it has appointed Hardik Pandya, a star Indian all-rounder, as captain. Finally, the PBKS has Mayank Agarwal as its new captain; this will be Mayank’s first stint as a captain in the League.
