IPOM condemns killing of six Naga men

The Indigenous People’s Organisation Manipur (IPOM), has strongly condemned the killing of six Naga men who were abducted on May 13, 2026, from Leilon Vaiphei village and whose remains were recently recovered.

In a statement, IPOM stated that the victims were subjected to extreme brutality, with their bodies found in a mutilated and unrecognisable condition. The organisation said the incident had caused immense grief and trauma to the bereaved families and the wider Naga community.

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, IPOM termed the deaths a tragic loss and called for justice for the victims.

The organisation also voiced concern over what it described as repeated acts of violence against civilians, alleging that the failure of both State and Central authorities to effectively address armed groups operating in the region had contributed to the prevailing security situation. It called for greater accountability and effectiveness from the security apparatus.

At the same time, IPOM welcomed the safe release of 14 Kuki individuals who were reportedly abducted on the same day, describing their return as a humanitarian gesture that reflected compassion and respect for human life. The organisation said such actions could help restore trust, harmony and peaceful coexistence among communities.

Calling for restraint and unity, IPOM urged people not to be drawn into cycles of violence and stressed the need to safeguard peace and communal harmony.

The organisation further appealed to both the State and Central Governments to conduct a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. It maintained that accountability was essential to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
