In a heartwarming gesture to mark his 57th birthday, former All India Radio (AIR) Imphal announcer Keke Wahengbam extended monetary assistance to Langjing Achouba Old Age Home and two notable personalities undergoing medical treatment.
Accompanied by members of ‘Meitei Eikhoi Punsinsi’ (Meipun), Keke Wahengbam visited Langjing Achouba Old Age Home, where he contributed Rs.8,000 to support the elderly residents. He also visited senior journalist Bilanta, who is currently undergoing treatment for a serious illness, and provided assistance of Rs.7,000. Later, Keke and the Meipun team extended a financial aid of Rs.5,000 to renowned singer Sagolsem Tijendra, who is also facing health challenges.
Keke Wahengbam, who is also an advisor to Meipun, celebrated his birthday at the Old Age Home, joined by Home President Dr. Mayengbam Kamala, Advisory Board Members Rakesh Naorem and L. Bobo, Secretary K.C. Gita, social worker Arbin Soibam, Smart Security Service Secretary Laimujam Pratap Singh, social activists Birla Salam and Surendra Ningombam, Meipun Admin Bobo Khundrakpam, and several members of the group.
Addressing the gathering, Keke Wahengbam shared his personal story as a cancer survivor.
“Having battled cancer, I understand the value of life and the importance of supporting others. My goal is to dedicate my remaining years to helping cancer survivors, widows, and those in need. I am happy to celebrate my birthday by bringing smiles to the elderly residents here and offering assistance to artists and journalists facing health issues,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Meipun Senior Member and Old Age Home Advisor Rakesh Naorem commended Keke Wahengbam’s dedication to social service.
“Despite his own struggles, Keke Wahengbam has turned his life’s challenges into a mission of serving humanity. His support for cancer survivors, widows, and the elderly reflects his deep commitment to community welfare,” he remarked.
Rakesh Naorem also highlighted the challenges faced by Langjing Achouba Old Age Home, which continues to operate with limited resources despite some government support. He emphasized the need for continued community involvement to improve the lives of its elderly residents.
