First organic pineapple consignment from Northeast India dispatched to Dubai

In a notable achievement for the organic farming sector in Northeast India, a consignment of organic and naturally grown pineapples from Meghalaya was successfully dispatched to Dubai on July 31, 2025. The shipment, totaling 2 metric tons, marked a milestone for Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading SPS-LLC and was flagged off from Assam Airport.
A statement by Arambam Karamjit Singh, General Secretary Media, Manipur People’s Party (MPP) said that the initiative was undertaken as a joint effort involving the Agriculture and Horticulture Department of Assam, the Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading company based in Ajman, UAE, and was facilitated by Mostakim Hussain, Assistant Nodal Officer. The effort was supported by Atul Bora, President of Assam Gana Parishad and Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Assam, along with S. Brojen Singh, President of Manipur People’s Party.
The produce was sourced from farmers in Meghalaya, and further consignments from Manipur and Assam are expected to follow in the coming weeks. Certification authorities such as APEDA and Phytosanitary officials monitored the dispatch process to ensure international standards were met.
Jotin Thokchom, Business Development Manager (Overseas) of Manipur Middle East Foodstuff Trading SPS-LLC and a member of Manipur People’s Party, indicated that an organic produce hub would be established in Assam under the Government of India’s Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER). This hub is intended to support organic farmers across the region and improve market access.
The consignment is expected to arrive in Dubai on August 1, 2025. Additionally, plans are underway to set up organic vegetable mandis in all northeastern states, aiming to strengthen the organic farming network and enhance farmers’ income throughout the region.
