Farmer Training and Seed Distribution Programme held at Awang Sekmai

A one-day Farmer Training cum Seed Distribution Programme was held at Koyungleima Community Hall, Awang Sekmai, jointly organized by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, and IPSA Sekmai Branch. The event aimed to empower farmers through awareness and the distribution of essential inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and machinery.
Peter Salam, Director of the Agriculture Department, attended as Chief Guest. Joychandra Konthoujam, Chairman of the Justice Committee on the Anglo-Manipuri War, was the Special Guest of Honour. The event also saw the participation of S. Kennedy Singh, District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West; Kh. Nimaichand Singh, Nodal Officer, MOVCD-NER; and W. Subas Singh, Nodal Officer, NFSNM. Kh. Bobi Singh, President of IPSA Sekmai Branch, presided over the programme.
Speaking at the event, Joychandra Konthoujam urged farmers to move beyond subsistence farming and adopt economically sustainable methods. He emphasized the need to treat farming as a dignified, strategic profession essential for building a self-reliant economy.
He also highlighted the importance of coordinated governance and warned against delays and inefficiencies that hinder agricultural growth. Applauding the Agriculture Department’s efforts, he called for timely and transparent delivery of farming inputs and schemes.
Konthoujam concluded by stressing the need to make agriculture a viable and youth-friendly sector, stating that a prosperous Manipur depends on a strong and self-sufficient farming community.
