EcoNetwork Manipur collects 500 Kg plastic waste for recycling

EcoNetwork Manipur has collected over 500 kg of plastic bottles and other plastic waste from Lanthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai, Imphal, under its Mission: Green & Clean Campaign, promoting waste recycling and environmental protection.

According to a press release issued by EcoNetwork Manipur president Sinthangamba Laishram, the waste was collected, segregated and handed over for recycling by members of the Meitei Chanu Self Help Group (SHG) of the locality, with Reshmi Ningthoujam playing a leading role in the initiative.

The organisation said the initiative demonstrated how discarded plastic could be converted into a source of income while reducing environmental pollution. It also cautioned that indiscriminate dumping and open burning of plastic waste cause air pollution, clog drains and pose health risks.

EcoNetwork Manipur said it would expand the campaign to other localities, with a focus on systematic waste management, segregation of household waste at source, and promoting reuse and recycling.

Calling for greater community participation, the organisation appealed to the public and concerned government departments to extend support towards building cleaner and more environmentally responsible localities.
