Imphal, Nov 19:
The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) has strongly condemned the recent incidents of extreme violence in Manipur, including the horrific reports of women being raped, murdered, and burned, as well as the kidnapping and killing of women and children from a relief camp in Jiribam. The victims were reportedly subjected to brutal torture, including beatings with rods. The CNPO described these acts as “cowardly, barbaric, and shameful,” emphasizing the severity of such crimes amid the ongoing crisis in the state.
In a statement, the CNPO reiterated its commitment to peace and coexistence, calling for unity, understanding, and harmony among all communities in Manipur. “We pray for peace and tranquillity,” the organization said, reaffirming its dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence in the region.
The CNPO, through its Information and Publicity Office, expressed deep concern over the worsening violence since the ethnic conflict erupted on May 3, 2023. The organization particularly highlighted the devastating impact the violence has had on innocent women and children, condemning the escalating brutality and calling for an end to the suffering.
