The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union has decided to organise the 15th Journalists’ Sports Meet 2026 from March 3 to March 7. The decision was taken during a Standing Committee meeting of the union held on February 7.
According to the resolution, bona fide primary members, associate members and renewed temporary members of the union will be eligible to participate in the sports meet. The annual event aims to promote physical fitness, camaraderie and unity among journalists across Manipur.
The sports meet will feature a range of disciplines including athletics for men and women, volleyball for men, table tennis for men and women, badminton for men and women, chess in the open category, football for men and cricket for men.
The programme will begin on March 3 with a torch rally from Kangla to the Manipur Press Club, scheduled to start at 7 am. On March 4, athletics events such as the 100-metre and 400-metre races, shot put, discus throw and long jump will be held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium from 7 am, followed by men’s volleyball matches in the afternoon near the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
Indoor games including table tennis, badminton and chess will be conducted on March 5 at the NSA Indoor Stadium from 7 am. Cricket matches are scheduled for March 6 at the Oriental College Ground, Takyel, while football matches will be played on March 7 at the Artificial Turf Ground, Khurai Lamlong Thongkhong. The sports meet will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony, where overall team champion and runners-up team champion trophies will be awarded.
The union clarified that once a journalist participates in an individual event representing his or her respective media house, the same media house will not be permitted to join or represent another group or team in any other event. It was also stated that the decision of the organising committee will be final and binding in all matters related to the conduct of the events.
