The 32nd annual Langban Chara Tamba, a ceremonial tarpan held in memory of the forefathers who laid down their lives during the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War, was observed today at Diamond Radio Complex, Khongjom. The event was organized by the Khongjom War Memorial Trust.
The programme was led by former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta, who also serves as President of the Khongjom War Memorial Trust, along with local residents at the site where the Khongjom river flows. Floral and fruit offerings were made in tribute to the martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, Moirangthem Hemanta said that many brave souls have sacrificed their lives for the motherland, citing Paona Brajabashi and other leaders of that era. He expressed concern that present-day leaders often fail to do so, resulting in the continued suffering of the people.
The annual programme was initiated in 1994 by former minister the late Moirangthem Ibotombi and Padma Shree awardee Ibetombi of Khongjom Parba fame and has been observed annually since. Until 2022, the event was held inside the Khongjom War Memorial Complex, but due to denial of government permission, it has been organized at the Diamond Radio Complex since 2023.
