Imphal, Jan 27:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) commemorated the 110th birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu, a prominent freedom fighter, alongside the 76th Republic Day of India on January 26, 2025, at its General Headquarters, Mount Ararat.
In a statement issued by Louis Gangmei, Secretary of Information & Publicity, ZUF highlighted that Rani Gaidinliu’s birth coincided with India’s Republic Day, making the day doubly significant. Gangmei noted that Republic Day marks the transition of India into a democratic republic with the adoption of the Constitution, replacing the Government of India Act of 1935. It was described as a celebration of the triumph of India’s democratic spirit and its independence from British rule.
The theme for this year’s Republic Day, “Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India – Heritage and Development), was said to symbolize India’s cultural heritage, unity in diversity, and commitment to national integration and progress.
The ZUF statement emphasized paying homage to the valiant sacrifices of freedom fighters, including Rani Gaidinliu, whose contributions have been recognized as instrumental in India’s independence.
The statement further reflected on Rani Gaidinliu’s legacy, highlighting her stature as a revered leader and freedom fighter from the Zeliangrong community in the Naga Hills of Assam, northeast India. It was suggested that her birth on January 26, 1915, could be seen as symbolic of India’s eventual transition into a republic on the same date in 1950.
